Thanksgiving Day memories are for a lifetime. Hopefully, this year will be full of many wonderful times for you and your loved ones. Unfortunately, there are those times when the unexpected happens and things can go a little haywire rather quickly. For example, you are preparing the Thanksgiving meal in your kitchen and the kitchen sink decides to clog up, maybe for the 2nd or 3rd time, which would indicate an underlying plumbing issue. Or maybe your guest bath has no running water at the sink or worse, the toilet won't flush. Not to worry! Give us a call at (405)445-0011. We have after hours and emergency services. In addition, we offer free local estimates during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!!

There are several symptoms that indicate you have roots in your sewer line but the most common is when you have a backed up kitchen, bathroom, or laundry line. For the bathroom backup this could mean that the toilet is not flushing and even sewer water or waste is coming up in your bathroom sink or tub - yikes! Not to worry, schedule us to come to your home or business and we will determine if in fact there are roots that have damaged or collapsed the line. One way we do that is to perform a camera and locate which can provide video of your drain line and makes it possible to view and pinpoint the location of any problems with your drain line such as a break or belly (see below for what a belly, or negative slope, in the drain line looks like). We often can make the necessary repair or replacement same day or within 2 to 3 business days.
We also offer FREE local estimates!!

If a plumber has already informed you that you have roots in your drain line, you can use copper sulfate to help control the root problem without damaging your trees ! But sometimes it is already too late for that and a replacement is necessary. It is best to try and catch a root infestation in its beginning stages. For more information, please call us at (405)445-0011. Also, here is a very informative link to an Oklahoma State University report on tree roots in drain lines:

This next winter plumbing tip is probably one of the most important.  In case you have a leak or other plumbing issue, knowing where your home's main water valve is can be a lifesaver. It is usually located near the water meter and it is a good idea to turn it off and then back on at least once a year to make sure it is in good working order. When you have a burst and leaking pipe in your home, the last thing you need is to be running around, especially in the cold outside, to find where the main water valve is so you can shut it off and stop the leaking. If you cannot locate the main water valve or are having trouble getting it to turn off or back on, you can call us at (405)445-0011 and we can help!

Do you have an unheated attic, basement, or garage? If you answered yes, then this blog post is going to be very helpful to you. Each year before the temperature falls to below zero, there are things you can do to help prevent your pipes from freezing. Such as the following:

Keep garage doors closed,  especially if there are water supply lines in the garage.

Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors  to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing. (If you have small children, be sure to remove any harmful cleaners and household chemicals.)

Let the cold water drip from a faucet served by exposed pipes. Running water through the pipe—even at a trickle—helps prevent pipes from freezing.

Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature during day and night. Again, during a cold snap is not the time to set back the thermostat at night to save a few bucks on your heating bill.

If you plan to be away during cold weather,  leave the heat on in your home, set to a temperature no lower than 55° F.

For the long term, add insulation  to attics, basements, and crawl spaces. Insulation will maintain higher temperatures in those areas. And to prevent drafts, seal cracks and openings around windows, doors, and at sill plates, where the house rests on its foundation.

However, if you suspect your pipes are frozen, it's time to call Heartland Plumbing at (405)445-0011. For your convenience, we do offer Emergency and After Hours Plumbing Services for those unexpected plumbing problems that cannot wait until the next day.

Here are a few tips to save a little money on your monthly utility bill:

  1. If you are going to be away from home for a few days or even for a lengthy vacation, turn down your water heater to save energy. Another helpful plumbing tip is that the typical life of a water heater can be anywhere from 6 to 11 years. If you don't know how old your water heater is, there is an easy way to find out! Just check out the last four digits of the serial number on the tank. This will show you the month and year it was manufactured.
2.  Laundry can seem neverending, but the one thing you don't want is a faulty rubber washing machine hose on your hands. So to avoid a potential leaky mess, visually inspect the hoses on your washing machine. A typical washing machine rubber hose lasts about 3 years.

 3.  Is it time to replace that old kitchen faucet or shower head with something new? Or, do you want to save some money on your monthly energy costs? Consider replacing shower heads and faucets with more energy saving fixtures. Not sure if it's really worth it? Do you want to know how much you can actually save by replacing your current faucet or shower head? Here is the very user friendly U. S. Department of Energy's website link to do just that!

Last week, we discussed a little about how to determine if you may have a clog somewhere in your plumbing and when it is time to call a professional. This week we will talk a little bit about having a plunger and a 3 foot auger handy for clogs that you may be able to clear yourself.

A plunger can sometimes do the trick, when it doesn't, it is good idea to have a small auger on hand. A three foot auger can range in price but you can usually purchase one for about somewhere between $20.00 and $50.00 and they often come with instructions on how to use them.

If you still have a clog, it is time to call Heartland Plumbing Services LLC at 405-445-0011. We offer after hours and emergency services.

Enjoying your summer so far? Help make sure your home or work summer events go off without a hitch because let's face it, the last thing you want as a host is any of your toilets or sinks to start backing up. Maybe you have loose fixtures such as a loose toilet or faucet? In this weekly blog, we will have some summer tips you can use to save a bit of money in the long run and avoid any possible plumbing situations. However, if you have a plumbing issue now, do not hesitate to call our office and get scheduled for a free estimate today!

For our first Summer tip, let's focus on avoiding clogs. Does your toilet have a weak flush or do you have slow drains? Then it is probably time to call us in for an inspection. Especially if during or after a heavy rain you have seen any water bubble into the tub. Tree roots are often the culprit in a broken line. They are drawn to the nutrients in septic or sewer lines and can grow into them and cause problems.

We are a licensed and insured plumbing company serving the OKC metro. Call us today for a free local estimate at (405)445-0011!!
